Our History
Harold Edward Tracey, Lee to his friends and colleagues initially designed the concept of the Scanlock Receiver in the early 1970’s whilst working for a branch of the government. He refined the design over the next few years until it was ready to sell in 1975. Initially launched for a grand total of £940 the product featured in the July edition of the New Scientist of the same year. All initial sales were through the company Technical Security Limited however this company was owned by the government. In 1977, Lee took the decision to form a new company Audiotel International Limited so he could further enhance and support the product worldwide. Although it is suggested that the company began trading in the same year, formal records show incorporation in 1978 and the company we know today was formed.

Lee left the company in the mid-eighties and at that time it was owned and run by an investment company. In 1987 Audiotel International was sold to Andrew Martin who led the company until his untimely death in 1997. During the first two years of ownership, Audiotel moved to Corby Northamptonshire from London and acquired Security Research. With the acquisition it gained access to the latest developments of Charles Bovill’s NLJD (Non Linear Junction Detector) designs. Charles had long been a friend of Lee’s and they had worked together on a number of ventures and products. New developments and products quickly followed and Audiotel enhanced its reputation as becoming one of the world’s leading experts in the field of Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM). With Andrew’s death in 1997 the company entered into a period where trustees of Andrew’s estate ran it.

New developments and investment in staff continued; including the company’s largest contract of the time, supplying a modified (patented software algorithm) SuperBroom unit (NLJD) to the Indian Army for use in detecting the triggers used in the construction of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

This then lead to the company being sold in 2003 to a London based investment company. A larger follow on order from India was received and supplied a year later for the same equipment. This signified that the technology in the NLJD could be adapted for the purpose of detecting the triggering mechanisms used in the manufacture of IED’s.

In 2009 the company took on further high performance C-IED development work that would eventually result in the largest contract to date being placed with the company in 2011. This resulted in the eventual move to a purpose built larger premises still within the Corby area.

In September 2015 the company was acquired by Tioga. Tioga is one of the UK’s leading privately owned contract electronic manufactures (CEM) offering a broad spectrum of state of the art electronic assembly. Upon the merger of Telemisis and Tioga in 2017, the company became a part of Simpatica Group.
